The Scrabble Wiki

Ben Wilson (UK) writes:

I am delighted to announce the launch of a major new Scrabble project, the Scrabble Wiki. This is an attempt to build up an online encyclopaedia about Scrabble using the same principle as Wikipedia, namely that anyone at all can edit any of the pages at any time.

The address for the wiki is: http://wiki. centrestar. co.uk

Over the past few days Stewart Holden and I have been creating very basic starter pages on some Scrabble articles. You can see a complete list by going to 'full list of articles' on the front page, or try entering a subject in the Search box on the left hand side. At the moment the existing content is mainly UK-oriented although John Chew and Edward Okulicz have also made small contributions (see NSA and ASPA pages).

We strongly encourage everyone looking at this to realise that YOU can contribute anything to the encyclopedia simply by clicking Edit at the top of a page. This allows you to change or add to what is already there. If you search for a subject and find that it doesn't have a page yet, you will be able to create one. Be BOLD with your editing - any mistakes can be easily changed and the more people get involved the better. This has the potential to be a useful mine of information about Scrabble all over the world, so get stuck in!

Although it would be nice if every tournament player had an article about themselves, in reality this isn't realistic and would take up too much space (this is an encyclopedia of articles, not CrossTables! ). So for the moment please stick to making articles about major tournament winners in any country, or other notable figures in Scrabble past and present (e.g. John Chew, Michael Tang, Graeme Thomas, etc.).

Good things to contribute would include:

- brief biographies of notable players, particularly mentioning major tournament wins
- information on tournaments, both large and small
- terminology (brief explanations) , e.g. bonus stems, probability, benjamins, etc.
- information on Scrabble books, magazines and documentaries (past and present)
- Scrabble associations (information and history)
- Scrabble variants
- And anything else you think would be appropriate!

Happy reading and happy contributing!

A tribute to our P6 Scrabblers

To our P6 scrabblers, may your passion for scrabble light the way in times of darkness and bad tiles. Don't stop playing scrabble! Some of you truly have the potential to be anointed the title of Scrabble Master one day! :)

To our P3-P5 Scrabblers, I can see great potential in you and I'm sure you will do very well next year. But potential must be coupled with hard work. So use the holidays to read through the word lists!

Memorise the two-letters first!
Learn the words containing J, Q, X and Z!
Learn the SATIRE and SATINE bingos!
Play online scrabble on ISC everyday!

Follow my advice and trust me, you WILL see a change in your scrabble game. It will definitely improve by leaps and bounds :)

PS: Isn't this collage a tribute for P6s? Why is Angela there? :)
